I am trying to find information about records that would possibly be in
Maarke-Kerkem, 9680, Flandre Orientale, Flandre, BELGIQUE.
For Maria Shamp (born circa 1610-20), married to Joannes Demerlier,
on 11 March 1637 (Wednesday). Maria may have died in 1645.
Joannes parents: Joris Demerlier, ca 1570-1624.
Gilline De Temmerman, ca 1560-1638.
This is the first time I have found Shamp in Belgium. I was told
the name had also been spelled Schamp.
Thank you,
Dale V. Shamp (1944-)

jellymouse117,
I have tried all of the links you suggested and I cannot get into
your message.
Is there a trick to reading it or am I supposed to be a Premium Member?
Thank you,

Hi Dale,
The church registers for Maarke-Kerkem start in 1630. Anything prior to that date may have been calculated based on the age, or may have come from other records such as notarial records, which are not available online. The church registers for that period are in latin. They can be accessed at the link below.

As for the spelling of names, it was not fixed until around 1800 and was written phonetically at the whim of the writer. Which is why you will find many variations for the same person, sometimes in the same document.
