Merci beaucoup

Hello, I am using google translate to write to you. I am French-speaking Belgian.

My name is Xavier Hennau, one of the ancestors of my genealogy is
Laurent, Victor, Napoléon Hennau, he is known to you with the spelling HENNO.
In 1833, he was invited to Odessa (Ukraine) by Governor Vorontsov as a chemist. He became the Director of the Odessa Mineral Water Institute.

- 1837 he chaired campaigns against the Plague, received the Gold Medal for the cessation of the Plague in Odessa.

- 1839 on July 15, he was appointed Consul of the Kingdom of Belgium in Odessa.

- 1847 on July 7, he was made a knight of the order of Leopold (1st)

- 1854 he founded the suburbs of Odessa - Fontanka and Alexandrovka.

He married Cleopatra Popandopulo, daughter of a Greek officer, hero of the war against the Ottomans.
I am desperately researching if he had any descendants born in Ukraine.

I discovered that his brother was a prominent professor of pomology and fruit trees. And I think he must have advised Laurent, Victor, Napoleon in the creation of vineyards in the Odessa region.

My main request is are there any descendants in Ukraine and do you have any information on Doctor Laurent, Victor, Napoléon Hennau (Henno)

thank you so much

Bonjour,
Je n'ai pas d'habitude des recherches en Ukraine, et commencerais par un site russe de généalogie, qui a une section dédiée à la ville d'Odessa et au district d'Odessa; (г. Одесса и Одесская область).
https://forum.vgd.ru/2661/3371/2860.htm?a=stdforum_view&o=
Клеопатра Папандопуло ?
Cordialement

Bonjour,
On March 27, 2019 Fontanka (village in Odessa region) has received its coat of arms and flag.
Coat of arms represents the red field and the gold base, two silver dolphins holding the fountain. Red and yellow colors are similar to ones on the flag of Liege, the Kingdom of Belgium. In this city in 1802 the Consul of the Kingdom of Belgium and doctor of medicine Victor Laurent Napoleon Hennau was born. He's the founder of Fontanka (c.1856). Victor Hennau is included in the Fontanka Book of Honor at number 1.

Victor and Cleopatra Hennau had no children, but they raised their wife's niece Natalie Dembovsky.

I am preparing an academic article on Victor Hennau that will be translated into French. Xavier, I will send you the article after publication.

This is a draft article.

Dr. Hennau and founding of Fontanka

The details of founding of the village of Fontanka have long been sealed. In historical science, the foundation date of a settlement is first mention of it. The Soviet encyclopedia "History of towns and villages of the Ukrainian SSR" says that Fontanka was founded in 1892 by immigrants from the Kiev province. However, in the list of populated areas of Kherson province, according to the information of 1859, Fontalka (Fontanka) village is found, which was located on the postal road from Odessa to Nikolaev between Kryzhanovka farms, on the one hand, and village of Novaya Dofinovka, on the other. At that time, 123 people lived on Fontalka in 25 yards. According to the lists of the owners of villages of Odessa district in 1856, we recognize the first landowner and owner of Fontanka. It was Dr. Victor Karlovich Enno.
Victor Enno (Victor Napoleon Laurent Hennau) was born on September 2, 1802 in Belgian city of Liege. The family was famous in the Kingdom of Belgium, its members were about a dozen scientists and public figures. In 1822 Victor graduated from the medical faculty of University of Liège, defended his diploma in the treatment of abscesses, and became a professor of medicine. In 1833 he was invited by the governor Mikhail Vorontsov to develop the production of medicinal waters in Kuyalnik, where he became the director of Odessa institution of artificial mineral waters. The peak of popularity of the Belgian came in 1837, when the plague broke out in Odessa. Wanting to avoid the consequences of death from this disease, as was the case in 1812, the governor created a commission, which included Enno. The commission divided the city into four quarantine parts, the communication between which was limited. One of these sanitary areas was headed by Victor Enno. For his successes in the fight against the epidemic, he was awarded the state gold medal "For the end of the plague in Odessa in 1837" The townspeople called him only "Doctor Enno".
In 1839 Belgium appointed Victor Enno by the first consul of the Kingdom in Odessa. His diplomatic correspondence with Brussels is full of reports of a favorable trade regime in Odessa. Belgium became an important trading partner of the empire. In 1842, the consul invited engineer Sieber to Odessa, who drew up a scheme of the future Odessa railway. And already during Enno's lifetime the first railway tracks were laid in Odessa region. For his services to Belgium, he became a knight of the highest royal order of Leopold 1st in 1847. Subsequently, Dr. Enno became a state councilor, was an assistant to the trustee of the Odessa Sturdzovskaya almshouse of the Compassionate Sisters. He actively participated in the activities of the Imperial Odessa Society of Agriculture, dealt with a number of problems, including the development of viticulture and winemaking in the vicinity of the city. He had a house on the street. Gavannaya, as well as a summer residence on the Malofontanskaya road (future French Boulevard) in Otrada area. Today the buildings of the French Boulevard winery are located here.
What does the Belgian consul have to do with the founding of Fontanka?
According to the Yassy Treaty of 1791, the lands of Edisan Horde between the Dniester and the Southern Bug became part of Russian Empire. Almost immediately, the land plots were transferred to the owners, mainly to the participants in the Russian-Turkish war. One of them was Athanasius Kesoglu, the first burgomaster of Odessa. His possessions were vast, and included the land between the sea, the estuaries of Kuyalnik and Small Adjalyk. After the death of Athanasius, his daughters Maria and Alexandra inherited his lands. The farm Maryevka (Kryzhanovka) and the farm Leksandria (Aleksandrovka) were named in their honor. Alexandra Kesoglu married the hero of the Russian-Turkish war, Greek Emanuel Popandopulo, the owner of Grigorievka. Their marriage gave birth to Cleopatra Popandopulo (~ 1807-87), who married Victor Enno. This marriage brought the Belgian consul the lands of Aleksandrovka right up to the sea, and soon new settlements appeared here. On a very detailed military-topographic map of the Kherson province from 1864, there is the Fontanka approximately within the limits of the current village streets: Patriotic, Primorskaya, Vinogradnaya and Pobeda. In addition, the map contains Isakov farm (Naberezhny lane and Lugovaya street, partially destroyed by landslides) and Volchiy farm (Molodezhnaya street). Later, all three farms were merged into the village of Fontanka. Considering that the information about the owner of Fontanka appeared in 1856, it should be considered the date of founding of the village. Dr. Enno died in Odessa on October 14, 1870.
